How to Prepare for a Fine Art Nude Photography Session
So you decided there is a Fine Art Nude concept that appeals to you and you don’t know what to do next. No problem! If you’ve never done it before, it can seem intimidating. That’s why there are some ground rules.
1. There is no touching during a nude shoot. No moving hair, no adjusting an arm, none. If anything needs to be adjusted, it will be communicated to you and you or your escort (if you bring one) will take care of it.
2. You are welcome and encouraged to bring someone with you to the shoot. It can be a friend, significant other, or family member. You decide who you bring.
3. All nudity is discussed in advance and you always control the level of nudity you are comfortable with.
4. You can change your mind. Just because you say your comfortable with something before the shoot doesn’t mean that you can’t change your mind during the shoot.
5. If we are shooting in studio, no one else from my team will be at the shoot. If it is an outdoor concept, I will do my best to ensure there are no other people around, but there is always the chance that someone stumbles into the area. So, keep that in mind if privacy is very important to you.
6. I will never share any of your images without permission.
The roadmap to a successful Nude Shoot:
1. Prior to the shoot we will discuss the concept and work out all of the details: Location/set design, time, hair and makeup, lighting, a few sample poses, and pricing.
2. We will go over additional details such as what level of nudity you are comfortable with. Are there certain things you want featured like your eyes, an insulin pump, a tattoo etc. If there are things you don’t want in the photos, we will discuss that too.
3. Leading up to the shoot please avoid getting sunburned. Also, please do not get a spay tan. Sunburns and spray tans making editing extremely difficult and sometimes impossible.
4. The day before the shoot make sure that you are hydrated and well rested. If you’re really committed, try to be hydrated and well rested the whole week leading up to the shoot.
5. If you are planning any hair removal, try to do it a day or two beforehand.
6. If you have nails that need a fill or repainting, please do that the night before the shoot.
7. The day of the shoot, wear loose clothing. If you’re comfortable foregoing a bra and underwear, please do so. All of this, especially when paired with good hydration, keeps the skin from having lines.
8. You are welcome to bring snacks and water. I have a robe that you can use during breaks, but if you have one of your own that you prefer, feel free to bring it.
9. If we are using a professional hair and makeup artist, head to their location first if they are not at the studio/location.
10. After hair and makeup, come to the shoot location.
11. Once you arrive we will review the details of the shoot and you can update me on anything that may have changed since we last spoke.
12. I will begin my lighting test. You will remain clothed for this. Once the lighting is where we want it, it’s time to get naked and begin.
13. During the shoot we will start with the sample poses and then start developing our own poses together. I will usually have a whole album of pose options because showing someone a pose is often easier than trying to explain it in words.
14. After the shoot is complete, you will go through the images on my computer and choose the ones you would like edited.
15. After the photos are edited you will get a link to download them and will have an opportunity to purchase prints.
16. Once you see the edited photos, I will ask you about sharing them. At that time you can give permission for me to share all the photos or just specific images. You can also say that you would rather they all stay private.
