My First Shoot with Audrey
I was actually introduced to Audrey Coleman through Madeline Snyder, who I had worked with previously. Apparently Madeline had mentioned me to Audrey while they were working backstage together at Phoenix Fashion week in 2023. That lead to Audrey messaging me to see if I needed someone for a project. The timing was impeccable, because I had just finished putting a concept together. At the time, Audrey was actually acting as a figure model for art classes at Arizona State University. That was helpful because my work typically has nudity and this concept was no different.
When I first met Audrey it was clear she was very used to posing and had a very strong sense of body positioning and expression. She also had very striking eyes. Eyes are important when doing nude work because sometimes you need people to notice the intensity that facial expressions can emote and when you have eye-catching eyes, it helps. Audrey is also smart as a whip and it was evident she was driven. That drive creates an energy during the shoot that motivates everyone involved. No one wants to be the anchor dragging a shoot down.
The concept was old world meets the jungle. A hand painted backdrop paired with simple leaf props and a dynamic model. Audrey’s job was to give a feral, intense feeling with her body and face. Part of my inspiration came from Peter Lindbergh’s shoot with Kate Moss outdoors. I am drawn to the concept of opposites, like yin and yang. In his case he had a studio backdrop setup outside and it created this dot of order in chaos.
